This is a companion volume to the main rulebook; it contains more reprinted
material from back issues of White Dwarf, which are over a decade old.
For me, the best chapter of this book is the third one. This deals with Social
Standing in the Old World and is more than an optional rule; it needs
implementing!
The chapter on skills is another thing that needs implementing. I however,
draw the line that anyone with experience points can attempt to learn any
personal skill without tuition makes no sense to me.
The Gnome reappears after last being seen in White Dwarf number 86, an
issue that disappeared February 1987. Is it worth it? Well, they can be a laugh
to role-play after you have become bored with playing a Halfling.
The rest if the non-human material is worth looking at, but I take exception to
Elves beginning play with 1d6 inanities! In addition, the Elven Wardancer has
always struck me as something that would appeal to Rules Rapists
everywhere.
There are three mini-adventures contained within and they are all of average
quality. The complicated one is and a bit daunting to begin with, but once you
have run it, a few times you can appreciate how absurdly funny it is!
The fumble charts are nice, but these appear in the screen as well.
Summary
Regard the book as optional and use what you want and discard the rest.
